What Sets Me Apart From My Opponent

Someone asked me the other day “What sets you apart from your opponent?” How much time do you have?
  1. I want fair representation. I don’t care what party you are with, what your race or gender is. Your financial or social status makes no difference in how I will vote. My opponent doesn’t offer this to his constituents. Don’t believe me, go take a look at his Twitter page. He may be popular in Frankfort (depending on who you ask), but 9 out of 10 people I’ve talked to in District 10 have never met him or spoken to him. Thats because if your principles don’t align exactly with his, then he won’t have anything to do with you. That’s unacceptable to me. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. As your representative, my personal opinions don’t matter. I’m prepared to work FOR you and if I am challenged to choose between my personal opinions and my constituents needs, my constituents will always come first.
  2. I believe in personal freedoms. I believe in smaller government. My opponents voting record is questionable at best and the local extremist party he is so proud to be endorsed by only cares about their own freedoms, not yours or mine. Don’t believe me? Go to a local GOP meeting and say you have a problem with their chosen presidential candidate (which would be your right according the freedoms they claim to support). You will be censured, stalked on social media and bad mouthed whether you are a member or not. We may not always agree on everything, but my goal is to listen to you and have conversations that lead us common ground.
  3. I believe in taking care of our own people first and I won’t sell out to big corporations or lobbyists. My opponent feels the opposite. Don’t believe me. Ask him how he voted on HB367 (Legislation that would take away access to food and other benefits from hundreds of children, senior citizens, farmers, and veterans in our community). Spoiler alert, he voted yes. I believe that we need transparency, accountability and fiscal conservatism. Let’s invest in our communities who need help instead of wasting millions on special interests.
  4. I support public education. Despite the fact that my opponent has photos of himself with local teachers, his school choice bill will hurt them and public school students. Don’t believe me? He wants taxpayers to fund his church’s private school, where he is an active board member. I don’t know about you, but ethically, it seems a little wrong. Public school teachers are some of the hardest working people I know. They never stop working. It’s time they are compensated fairly and honored for their efforts.

I could go on and on and on, but first and most importantly, I have been active in Frankfort for nearly a decade, I know the process and I know that good hard-working people are not being represented. I am not a professional. I’m not a politician. I’m simply a mom and advocate who wants to do right by people. That’s it.

If my district wants more of the same, they will decide on May 21st. If they have had enough, there is another name on the ballot for a moderate republican who is ready to bring back republican values while leaving hate and division at the doorstep.
