What Makes Me Qualified to Run for Office?
Someone asked me today, “What makes you qualified to run for office?”
I was born in KY to a teenage mother and a father who worked a factory job. We struggled. Times were not always easy. I took drugs and used alcohol to cope with severe anxiety and became a full blown addict in my 20’s. I got clean and sober by myself. I have a son with epilepsy and I’ve watched him suffer while becoming his greatest advocate. I have had financial strains and at times have wondered how I was going to survive. I’ve had family members who have suffered with illness. I have lost many people I’ve cared about deeply. I’ve lost jobs, had my car repossessed and had a house in foreclosure. I’ve been harassed by a system that wants to keep me down. I have felt hopeless and felt like nobody cared whether I lived or died. I’ve suffered with mental health issues. I’ve fought my way out of darkness and somehow managed to come out on top. I’m not a politician or a professional. I’m just me and I have the desire and motivation to help where I can.
That’s it.
I have no special “agenda” and I have no plans to become something I am not. You can judge me from my past, but know that I am an open book. I am not ashamed or afraid to fight for people because I have COMPASSION and that’s something that is severely lacking in our legislature.
So what qualifies me for this job?
I am YOU.
